S1 Recycling  &  Sustainability

Outcomes




The agreed intention is that teachers are to meet the following outcomes but it is up to the individual how this is done. 

I can;

  • identify the sources of softwoods, common metals, plastics and engineered wood products
  • distinguish between the terms recycling, upcycling and sustainability
  • give examples of  local recycling and sustainability, and describe why KGS is termed a ‘green’ school
  • name 3 products made from recycled and upcycled materials
  • identify means of energy production
  • identify methods of minimising energy waste and why this is good for the environment
  • describe global warming and its effects
  • describe and name methods converting energy from one form to another
  • contribute to a leaflet advertising the benefits of  reducing waste and encouraging recycling

The agreed intention is that teachers are to meet the following outcomes but it is up to the individual how this is done.

I can;
  • describe the need for graphic communication in society
  • identify common logos and  that each demonstrates shape, colour and image
  • describe the difference between 2 and 3 dimensional drawings
  • sketch cuboids, cylinders, cones and pyramids in isometric and oblique projection
  • use tonal scale and use it to give depth to sketched shapes including shadow effect
  • recognise and use a colour wheel to determine contrasting, complimentary and warm, cold, mood colours
  • give 3D shapes a chosen texture such as glass, wood etc (extension work)
  • create a step chart and use sketches to illustrate some of the steps
  • create a display of  possibly composite, colour rendered, textured 3D shapes on A3 paper (pencil box or tool hook project)

Learning Outcomes.The agreed intention is that teachers are to meet the following outcomes but it is up to the individual how this is done. 

  • Workshop Safety: Hazzards in the workshop, PPE, safe working practices.
  • Basic Wood Theory: Main categories, Tree to Timber coversion process, manufactured boards.
  • Basic Metal Theory: Main categories, properties of some metals, some manufacturing processes used to create metals from their raw material state.
  • Basic Plastic Theory: Origins of plastics, refinary process, types of plastic.
  • Basic Design Process: Aesthetics, Function, Ergonomics and Manufacture.
  • Basic Hand and Machine Tools: Tool identification, safe working practices.
  • Manufacture of artifacts from a given range of materials. Marking out to given dimensions, wasting, forming and finishing processes.
