HOMEWORK FOR SCHOOL CLOSURES

​Computing Science students have been given advice in lesson on what work they should currently be working on, whilst working from home this advice does not change.  You can download specific tasks for Computing Science from the links below but for the majority of pupils logging onto Microsoft Teams is the quickest way to get started.

Computing Science Home Study


Success in Computing Science 

Being a keen student in CS will lead you to many fantastic opportunities in employment, naturally to get there you will need the answers to many questions. Learning can be interesting and reflecting on your daily classes in CS really helps to reinforce what you have been covering in class. All S4, S5 and S6 are loaned a CS Book that specifically covers the course topic by topic, to assist your learning revise a little each day. In addition, below there are links providing interesting and interactive learning. Additional home study is set throughout the course.

Higher 

Scholar is Heriot Watt University’s world famous on line support. You will need a Scholar log in and password - from your teacher.
  • Comprehensive online interactive learning materials, activities, assessments and revision packs.
  • The learning platform gives access to online communities, resources, monitoring information and information tools.
BBC also provides an excelent coverage of the course, including:
  • video clips, and
  • self assesing questions.

National 5 and 4

BBC  provides an excelent coverage of the N5/4 course, these include:
  • topic content
  • video clips, and
  • self assesing quest
N5/4 John Walsh Book Loaned, gives full coverage of the National 4 & 5 course and is endorsed by SQA.
This comprehensive textbook provides full coverage of the Computing Science courses offered by the Scottish Qualifications Authority at both National 4 and 5 levels. The book is divided into two core units of the syllabus, Software Design and Development and Information System Design and Development.

S3 BGE

As S3 tracks the Broad and General Education standards, you are encouraged to review the BBC site covering the key topics you are learning from the N4 curriculum, other home work is given throughout the course, usually reflective on the lessons we are covering. 
You are encourage to discuss the topics throughout the course at home, as often this will lead to you understanding how we use CS in the wider community.
