BUY FAIR AND LOCAL PROJECT TRIP- Monday 30th January 2023
As part of their ‘Values in Action’ unit of the RBV (Religion, Belief and Values) Award @ level 5, the S4 (C1, E1, F2) College class have been learning about Fairtrade as an avenue through which they can put their values into action. The class visited a local Fairtrade café, SunBean Coffee House (Victoria Street), to continue to encourage and support their usage of Fairtrade products. The reason for the visit stems from the unfair climate crisis plaguing the workers and farmers who grow most of our favourite beverages and food. Suffice to add that these communities already facing extreme hardship due to unfair trade, are those feeling its worst effects. Did you know cocoa, bananas and coffee could soon be much more difficult to find on our shelves? Climate change is making crops like these harder and harder to grow. Combined with deeply unfair trade, communities growing these crops are being pushed to the brink. But here’s the good news. More of us choosing Fairtrade means extra income, power, and support for those communities, as they work to build sustainable and prosperous futures.
The group is as asking that you join them is spreading the simple message: Choose Fairtrade now and help save our favourite foods.
Picture shows Mr Simon Treasure (the owner of SunBean) receiving the box of 500 Fairtrade white sugar sticks with net weight of 1.5kg.
REMEMBER: Not only is choosing Fairtrade best for people and planet, but it could also help save everyday treats like chocolate, bananas and a hot cuppa!
