Extended In-School Support Team
- There are four members of staff within the guidance department
- Mrs Marlyn Firth is the head of guidance
- Each house contains approximately 280 students
- Each house contains students from S1 through to S6
- Each house has four S6 House Captains who take an active leadership role within the school community.
- Each house is made up of twelve tutor groups that are used for morning registration.
- Each tutor group is made up of a mixture of all year groups and contains roughly 20 students
- The guidance team co-ordinate the programme of PSE lessons for all pupils from S1-S6
- The guidance team are the first point of contact for parents regarding questions, queries and concerns about their child.
Extended In-School Support Team
- The guidance department work closely with Mrs Amy Berry, the school's home link worker. Amy's role is to foster positive relationship with pupils and their families particularly those students who are finding it challenging to attend school.
- The guidance department work closely with Mrs Mara Broadhurst, the school's youth worker. Mara works with a range of students across all year groups and abilities through one to one sessions and/or small group sessions.
- Each house is allocated a specific Curriculum Support Teacher. Guidance Teachers and Curriculum Support Teachers meet weekly to discuss strategies and solutions to best support students within the house. Other roles undertaken by this Curriculum Support Teacher may include class observations/team teaching with Guidance staff (to develop positive relationships with students), carrying out Dyslexic Screening Tests (DSTs) with students and minute taking at Child's Plan meetings.
- Each house is allocated a specific Skills Development Scotland (SDS) careers adviser. Although the vast majority of the Careers Adviser's time is spent working with pupils one to one in the school's library, Guidance teachers and SDS staff meet regularly to discuss individual pupils and to plan the content of Careers Education including highlighting the importance of Career Management Skills (CMS).
