National 4/5 Physical Education
The National 4/5 course offers pupils the chance to gain formal qualifications in Physical Education and also a pathway to continue into a sporting career. The course focuses on developing and improving practical and performance skills in physical activities, while also providing opportunities to develop team building skills and enhance learners' ability to compete, co-operate and collaborate.
The course also allows learners to develop and demonstrate a comprehensive range of movement and performance skills in physical activities. Pupils also develop an increased understanding of the important link between fitness and good health. Pupils that participate in the course are expected to be motivated, committed and driven to learning new skills as well as developing their performance in a range of activities. Assessment |

National 4 - This course is comprised of three units of work
National 5 - This course is comprised of two units of work
Practical performance - This will be assessed through two 'one off' activities each worth 30 marks. Pupils will be assessed in two activities of their choosing over the following categories: Performance repertoire; control and fluency; decision making; tactics & compositions; rules and etiquette and control of emotions.
Factors impacting performing (FIP) - this will be assessed through a portfolio format where pupils are expected use their retained knowledge of the unit to complete the assessment independently. This will then be submitted to the SQA for external marking.

National 5 - This course is comprised of two units of work

- The course is structured out of 120 Marks with the both the practical performance and FIP sections worth 50% of candidates overall grade, respectively.
Practical performance - This will be assessed through two 'one off' activities each worth 30 marks.
