The RMPS department aims to encourage pupils to explore the big questions of life; Is there a God? How did the Universe begin? Why are we here? What does it all mean? Is there an afterlife? Why do people have to suffer? How can I know anything for certain? These are the kinds of questions we explore in RMPS. The department also looks at belief systems across the world, encouraging a respect for the views and traditions of others.
The topics we teach in S1 to S3: S1: “What is Religion (Why RMPS, Christianity, Atheism, Agnosticism, Humanism)/ Why Morality and Introducing Philosophy S2: Living in a Plural Society/The Future of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. S3: National 4 Certificate in RMPS and the RBV Level 4 Award In S3, you can choose to study RMPS in more detail in our “certificate” course, instead of core: S3 certificate courses: National 4 Certificate in RMPS and the RBV Level 4 Award · All National courses have unit assessments for each of the above courses. · At National 4, you will also need to complete successfully an “Added Value Unit” (project) |
The topics we teach in S4 to S6: In S4, we study RMPS in more detail through RBV Level 5 course and the three (3) freestanding Philosophy units @ Level 5, instead of core: · All National courses have unit assessments for each of the above courses. If you choose to do National 5 or Higher in RMPS you will study: Unit 1: World Religion: Buddhism Unit 2: Morality and Belief: Morality and Justice Unit 3: Religious and Philosophical Questions: Origins of life and the Universe · All National courses have unit assessments for each of the above units. · At National 5/Higher, you will also need to complete successfully an “Assignment” under exam conditions. · To pass the National 5/Higher course, you will need to pass a final exam on the above units The department can also offer Advanced Higher, depending upon levels of pupil interest and staffing. Please speak to your RMPS teacher in the first instance if interested. |
