Youth Achievement Award
The Youth Achievement Award allows you to take part in practical activities which have been generated from ideas from the group members. A teacher and Youth worker work alongside the group to enable the projects to be planned organised, carried out and evaluated by the group.
Projects undertaken by KGS groups have been: film making, tree planting, gardening in the community, organising a community Bingo event, setting up a café, a Christmas Card Postal service, a painting project with a local Primary School and an anti-bullying campaign.
The group is made up of around twelve pupils who get to know each other well. Team working skills as well as taking the lead and organisational skills are developed. Pupils also record their work in various ways – photo evidence, peer and self-assessments, film and pictorial forms. This is collated in a folder which is presented to a moderator for assessment. The Award is nationally recognised.
The work of the group has been described by pupils as ‘different, practical, fun, exciting and it allows pupils to be themselves.’
